I need you vs. I want you

Which would you rather hear?

Is love based on need stronger than love that is completely free of it? In great romantic stories, we are used to hearing “I need you. I can’t live without you.” Some argue that this is a true declaration of love. But others claim it is better to be loved by someone who is totally independent, someone who does not need you at all but wants to be with you. What do you think?

In my novel, The Way Things Fall, two different men claim to love the main character, Rachel. I’d love to know which of them you empathize with most, which one demonstrates the sincerest kind of love, and whose love would you rather have.
